Chocolate Tasting at Victoria&Albert Reading Rooms South Kensington
by Greg Salvatori
We just had an amazing night in Central London,
a chocolate tasting with Baruzzo Chocolate
at Victoria & Albert Reading Rooms in South Kensington.
It was a beautiful night, crowded with a lovely audience:
people were contributing actively, participating to the workshop,
tasting different kinds of chocolate and discussing their impressions.
Raffaella Baruzzo, founder of Baruzzo Chocolate,
presented the tasting and guided the audience
through the details and behind the scenes of chocolate making.
Raffaella Baruzzo has a long experience with chocolate preparations
and knows the different aspects of chocolate making in depth.
She spent years researching cocoa and she lived and worked
on cocoa plantations in Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela.
She achieved a first-hand understanding of how the plants
and the beans transform into different qualities, and how the full process works,
from a seed to a beautifully packaged creation.
Our host, the lovely staff of Victoria & Albert Reading Rooms,
were amazing and made everyone feel comfortable.
Sophie, Eva, and Michelle made everything go smooth and easy,
working with them is such a pleasure.
The V&A Reading Rooms, at 8 Exhibition Road in South Kensington
is a stand alone, off-site bookshop which incorporates a wine bar.
A really uncommon spot in West London.
Small and intimate, the Rooms retain their original architectural features
- high ceilings, fine cornices and bay windows -
combined with the style and quirkiness of the V&A Shops.
Customers are able to read and to shop with,
if they so choose, a glass of chilled chablis in hand.
The extra reason to go to the V&A Reading Rooms:
every purchase supports the Victoria and Albert Museum,
the world's leading museum of art and design.
We are longing to be there again soon!

Celebrating Women's Day at the Italian Consulate in London with Monica Bellucci
by Greg Salvatori
Baruzzo Chocolate and Raffaella Baruzzo celebrate the International Womens Day at the Italian Consulate in London
International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8 every year.
In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements.
In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements.
Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily Eastern Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet bloc. In many regions, the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother's Day and St Valentine's Day.
In other regions, however, the original political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner.
Put a flower in your gun: winning the palate fight
by Greg Salvatori
One year old Baruzzo Chocolate challenges itself to charm new palates and steal them from the crowd of cheaper chocolate eaters.
Baruzzo Chocolate decides to take its prices down in full season, before Mother's Day and Easter, while other chocolatier are accumulating the most relevant part of the yearly revenues.
Baruzzo launches an Introduction Pack at £39.50, a limited edition only available till March 12th. With this move, Baruzzo cuts the 40% of its standard retail price (£66) and makes the luxurious hand-made chocolates potentially accessible to a broader audience.
This limited edition pack contains a range of the signature chocolate creations and a Large Box of Baruzzo Spring Collection 2012, the new floral selection of refined chocolates that includes Rose, Marigold, Camomile, Violet, Jasmine and Orange Blossom.
Raffaella Baruzzo, founder of the London-based company, says: “Our idea is to have better chocolate circulating in British homes for Easter 2012. The Spring Collection is our masterpiece and we want to show it to as much people as physically possible.”
Violet and Dark Chocolate, from Chocolatier to Perfumier (and back!)
by Greg Salvatori
Violet or Viola Odorata is known for its flirty scent and a fragrance that comes and goes.
A ionone present in the flower turns off the ability of the nose to smell the fragrant compound after a few moments.
The yield of one tonne of fresh flowers is only 98 oz of oil-of-violets. The light-green oil has a faint scent when in its concentrated, but when diluted to about 1:5000 it becomes suddenly strong.
Baruzzo selects violet from Northern Italy and combines their fresh, herbal hint with dark chocolate.

Jasmine infused into chocolate: the most elegant scent for those who use more than one sense
by Greg Salvatori
Jasmine is a fragile, climbing shrub, with dark green leaves. This evergreen plant, often associated with night and silence, can slowly grow up to 30 feet high. Being beautifully ornamental, it is very popular in Italian gardens.
The white, star-shaped flowers are picked at night, when the aroma is most intense. An experienced flower picker can pick up to 15,000 blossoms in one night.
Baruzzo uses the most delicate Oloong tea to infuse the jasmine from Sicily into the milk chocolate, preserving the flowers' elegant fragrance.
